Final Project

When I was brainstorming step, I had many ideas, including using Photoshop to convert some of my picture to alphabet letters, but I thought this idea is not creative enough. Although it is high relevant to my life, but I had done similar work before. I want to do something not only creative, but also current.

"Draw Something" is a super popular Iphone and Ipad app. It is an addictive social drawing game. Player must select one of your friend on the Facebook to be your opponent. Game gives player 3 words at time, player can pick one from it. Draw this word, and opponent must guess and spell this word correctly, based on the drawing. This app is the number 1 free app, word app in more than 40 countries. Averagely 500 drawing upload every second. This is amazing. I cant imagine there are other 500 people are drawing pictures as what i am doing.

Words are display randomly, so I can not draw what ever I want. I want to draw something relevant to me. I draw five pictures. The first one is a famous movie, which will be re-released this year. The second one is my favorite food. The next one is a signature move from a sport game. The forth one is one of common condiments. The last one is a logo of something.....

I thought use this app to finish my final project is actually funny. I know it is risky to do it, because it is a game. Doing such thing as my final project might hurt my grade. Another reason why I want to do this project, because I can let other people guess what I draw in the presentation part. I can interact with other classmates. I want other people can participate in my project. I had fun of doing this project.

MP5

My action words are “Sever” and “Suspend”. I picked “Suspend” to be my action word. I decided to hang my watch on the top of my bed, because sometime I would wake up late. If I could let my watch suspend on the top of my bed, I can know the time once I was woke up by the alarm clock. Sometime I was woke up by the alarm clock, but I would immediately turned that off. The suspending watch could remind me the time is flying away. Time is flowing like air, one can no physically gain it or touch it. I should live in the moment, seize opportunities and cherish time.

Micro Project 4

The superpower that I want to have the most is the ability of flowing in the air. When I was a kid, Aladdin was one of my favorite stories. I love Aladdin and his flying carpet. He could fly to anywhere he wants. I think it is really cool that I can fly or float like he does. I consider myself as a lazy bone, because I hate walking. I prefer taking vehicles rather than walking. I dont like feeling of waiting for a bus in the station, because I am not a patient man.I think a great superpower should be beneficial to the world, at least it should be beneficial for myself.  If I could have the power of flying or floating like what Aladdin does, I could save a lot of time of waiting bus, and save a lot of energy of walking. If anyone wants to jump of a building, I could floating and saving his or her life. I think this superpower could be beneficial for both myself and the world, so this is the superpower that I want the most.

Micro Project 3

Where?
9th floor, Thompson Library
When?
A morning of a class day
What?
My overear headphone+water bottle+hat+glasses
Why?
The Thompson library is one of my favorite place in the campus. I enjoy the time I spend at the 9th floor. The beautiful view of the Oval is why this place is so attractive to me. I decide this spot to be my personal space in the campus. I think nothing could represent myself better than these personal items. This water bottle represents my body. Not only because water is a origin of life, but I also want my body could be as strong as this water bottle. The most often thing that I do in the library is reading, so I put my glasses on the top of the water bottle. I love to listen music while reading books. I put the headphone as the top of my statue.

Minor Project

I walked by Knowlton School of Architecture everyday. It is a very interesting building at OSU. Pac-man inspired me of doing this picture. Life is like a Pac-Man game, one has to finish eating all the beans before those monsters get him/her.

Kimmelman

I think Kimmelman’s article is interesting. He did not want to write and introduction of art history. He wrote a book which is about how art connects about life. Art is everywhere, a building, painting, anything in our daily life could be an art work. Art comes from life, and life affects art.

I think the best part of his article is the question he asked at the end of the first part, “What do you look for when you go to a museum or a gallery?” My answer is, because of it’s beauty and my curiousity.

Next two articles

The Walker Article

After I finished reading of walker article, I learned more about the importance of “big idea” to an article. I have heard this term before. A great artist needs a great “big idea”. I think an artist with no big idea would be unpredictable and strange. An artist’s big idea should be simple and clear, so he or she could become famous in the world. I think a big idea is kind like a boundary or comfort zone, better not to break or challenge it. Some art works might be confusing or nearly impossible to understand by viewers, but if people could learn the big idea of the artist. It might be easier for viewers to understand the idea behind the work.

Artist has his or her own “big idea”, so does everyone in the society, people has “big idea” through his or her own life, growing up from being a child to an adult. In general, I enjoyed reading this article, because it is not only easy to read, but also presents lots of important concepts of artmaking.

The Barrett Article

In the Barrett article, I like the part that article analyze many different connotations and denotations and how different students see it. I really like the part that he pulls the “Rollingstone magazine ” as an example of connoted image and linguistic message. Vivid example like this could be really helpful for explaining ideas. He presents some new ways of seeing magazine cover, commercial or poster, which I have never noticed that there are so many strategy of making a magazine cover.

Students of different ages have different ways to see connotations and all any kinds of different things. He written this article in the order of different groups, but no compare them all in a same paragraph, because those different groups are not comparable.

First two articles

The Cheese Monkeys

I have to admit, this article is confusing. The title leads people’s imagination. I have no any thoughts when I finished reading it at the first time, but we I took a deep breath and read it all over again, I can figure out the interesting meaning of this article. This article is interesting, I don’t know whether is appropriate to say it is “black humor”. Author uses some weird and interesting way to define some ideas, “Left to Right” and “Tuesday and Thursday”. This article is a package of author’s imagination.

One thing that I really dislike this article is this article seems really unorganized. When I was reading this paragraph, I could not predict what is at the next paragraph. Many paragraphs look like unconnected. Maybe I am not good enough to understand the structure of this article, but this article shows us the different ways of thinking.

The Heresy of Zone Defense

I am a fan of basketball, so compare with “The Cheese Monkeys”, this article is easier for me to understand it. I love this article starts with a great moment of basketball history. Those histories push basketball’s growth. Rules make basketball a better sport. I think making rule is really important in everywhere, not just the sport game. After reading this article, I could not find the relation between art and this article, but basketball game itself is an art.

I have watched Erving’s classic shot on Youtube, it is amazing…

Nujabes, a Japanese musician is my all-time favorite artist, a genius who mixed jazz and hip hop. I also admire artist like Jason Mraz, a talented and creative musician. I am a huge fan of soccer, billiard and basketball. My favorite TV show should be “The Amazing Race”. My favorite TV series is “Modern Family”. I love to watch stage play rather than movie. Ginger Ale is my favorite beverage, but I love to try many kinds of unpopular or strange juice, like beet juice. I think this year is going to be a wonder year, at least is will not the end of the World.
